HELLO, I'M LEWIS

I am an experimental archaeology professional specializing in mesolithic culture, replica items and Wild foods. My five years of teaching experience has focused on ethno-ecology in prehistory, from contemporary to archaeological items, as well as collaborative museology for which I am keen to be more involved with.

I am a detail-oriented, highly organized, and motivated person, and I'm always looking for challenging projects and opportunities to expand my skillset. I have particular experience in consultations and assessment of mesolithic lifeways, living history for public engagement and research requirements. I spend a lot of time researching newly published finds and papers in an effort to keep as up to date as possible with the newest discoveries.  I also practice a wide range of “primitive” skills, including flint knapping, friction fire, tanning, hand sewing, fiber arts, foraging, atlatl & archery, and much more.  My current combination of skill sets has taken me more than 10 years to acquire.  Even so, I tell students I am likely at the level of a 5-year-old in the Mesolithic. At present  my achievements are attributed to self teaching and self accreditation however I am enroled as a student a the university of York.

Into Wilderness is where we go in our minds eye whenever we are in search of real human experience.

Prehistoric life in Britain holds the key to fully understanding aboriginal wisdom and kinship values. In an ever changing world Into Wilderness aims to engage with folks across Britain on the topic of prehistory in search of our ancient way of life.

Nestled within the limestone hills and little rivers of the Peak District National Park, the Into Wilderness heritage craft workshop provides seasonal practical craft workshops alongside local experimental archaeological research year round, making the centre distinguishably unique for its ability to engage with people on the topics of heritage craft and aboriginal ways in this part of Britain. With many prehistoric landmarks surrounding the Into Wilderness workshop it's the perfect setting to learn ancient skills and gain a deeper understanding of aboriginal wisdom.
